Fall is here! Well, sort of- there’s still technically a few more weeks until fall is “officially” here. Even so, the Autumn charm is filling the air! We at Metropolitan Breastfeeding thought it would be a great idea to share our top picks for fun activities to do in the fall with a newborn. We think Autumn can be filled with great times!
Picnic in the park Some nice weather, a lovely park, and great food can lead to unforgettable family memories. Experts recommend outdoor time for both baby and parents, because being cooped up in the house all day, every day, can start to impact the whole family’s mood. A small picnic at a local park is perfect! There isn’t much you need to get started and staying local can ease worries about how much to bring. Pack some sandwiches, drinks, a blanket to sit on, and your diaper bag- that should be enough for an hour or two at the park with your family. Oh, and don’t forget to bring your sunscreen! Holiday Shopping Who doesn’t like shopping? Well, if you weren’t the shopping type before just imagine shopping for cute Halloween or Thanksgiving costumes for your little one. (Did someone say cute baby pumpkins and turkeys crawling around?! Yes please!) If that still isn’t your speed, then maybe food is! Going on a grocery trip for holiday meals can be fun and can result in yummy creations for the whole family. The fall season brings in a certain delightful twist to shopping, so take advantage of the seasonal themes and have fun! Walk around the Neighborhood Something nice and simple is a peaceful walk around the neighborhood. When the leaves start to change, and the weather begins to cool down, a little walk with your baby can brighten any day. You can also collect some pretty leaves while walking and put them in a plastic bag for baby to have a fun and colorful sensory experience! What do you plan on doing for your fall adventures? Yes, those two things can exist in harmony (for the most part)! You’ve probably heard and seen a lot about maternity clothing. But did you know breastfeeding clothing is a thing, too? Breastfeeding clothing is created to allow easier access to breastfeeding for parent and baby. Imagine being out at a restaurant and it’s time to feed baby: how challenging would it be to adjust your clothing in a way that is comfortable for you and baby? Some clothing is easy to work around (like tank tops and lowcut tops), but sometimes it can feel impossible to get to that comfortable position with clothes that aren’t made with breastfeeding in mind. We at Metropolitan Breastfeeding decided to share some of our recommendations for nursing clothing. The best part? You can find everything online and have it shipped right to your door! Stock Up on the Basics The first place we recommend you check out is Amazon.com. You probably already know about this magical website- who doesn’t? Well, we hope you also know that they have many different options for buying nursing bras, tank tops, and shirts in bulk. All the basics you’d ever need to get started can be found in one place. The customer review function is also really helpful on Amazon, because you can see what other breastfeeding parents thought of the products to be able to make a more insightful decision. Stock up on some nursing bras and basic tops to get yourself started! Going out Alright, so you’ve got your basics are squared away. Next step we recommend is getting nursing clothes suitable for a fun day out or a nice vacation (you deserve one!). We love sites like Motherhood.com, who specialize only in maternity and nursing wear. They have dresses, jumpsuits, cardigans, hoodies, and so much more, all made for nursing parents! If you’re looking for a clothing that’s cute for going to places like a park or mall, we recommend starting you search there. Dressed to Impress So, you’ve got the basics and some going-out clothes checked off the list- what’s next? Professional nursing clothing, of course! Breastfeeding parents come from all different backgrounds, so it’s awesome that online stores like MilkNursingWear.com are stocked with tops and dresses that would be appropriate for parents looking to return to work. There are many parent’s that balance career, family and breastfeeding. Now they are able to find affordable and appropriate clothing for those long meetings and conference calls. (Hey, at least you look good!) Don’t Forget the Accessories! All the site mentioned also all have nursing accessories, like scarves, fashionable nursing bags that look like purses, and much more. So, you never have to go without a signature necklace or scarf! Breastfeeding and fashion can make for an interesting and stylish wardrobe! What are some of your favorite nursing clothing brands? You can let us know on our Facebook and follow our “Breastfeeding in Style” Pinterest board for more ideas! We can’t believe it’s September already and that Fall is right around the corner! You’ve probably already noticed the back-to-school and pumpkin spiced themes making their ways back into focus. Before all of that sets in, we at Metropolitan Breastfeeding thought we’d highlight some awesome breastfeeding moments from this summer.
Breastfeeding in Public Parents can legally breastfeeding publicly in all 50 states. Now that’s a game-changer! Parents have been fighting the battle to breastfeed in public without harassment for a very long time, but in July it became official that it was legal to publicly breastfeed in all 50 states. Woohoo! This is amazing, but what’s more amazing was the news coverage on this – you saw it everywhere! Why is that so important? Well, when everyone is more aware of the laws around breastfeeding there is (hopefully) less chance of a breastfeeding parent being wrongly asked to cover up or leave because they’re feeding their child. Awareness is key in ensuring the success of this law’s intentions, and this summer was overflowing with awareness! Mara Martin Around the same time as the public breastfeeding news broke, one working and breastfeeding mom decided to make an impactful statement. Model Mara Martin strutted her way down the catwalk with her baby fully latched on, without missing a beat. Moms everywhere found inspiration in Mara’s dedication to both motherhood and her work passions. It’s no easy feat being a parent, and when you add breastfeeding and a hectic work schedule life can become overwhelming. Statements like the one Mara Martin made are great reminders to parents that they are strong enough to nurture their children’s and their own wants and needs. Chrissy Teigen Now let’s take a moment to talk about another model – Chrissy Teigen. This is one busy mom! Chrissy loves showing the world her family bond. We loved (liked, favorited, pinned) every second of it this summer. Chrissy has shown us the true struggle of spilling milk (a.k.a. Liquid Gold), as well as the importance of having a support system (can’t we all have a John Legend in our lives?). Chrissy Teigen, and other celebrities like American Ferrara and P!nk, have done played a huge part in normalizing breastfeeding in the public eye this summer and have showed Hollywood that they can live their breastfeeding and personal dreams! World Breastfeeding Month and World Breastfeeding Week Finally, let’s talk about World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month. To quickly explain, August is the official National Breastfeeding Month and the first week of August is World Breastfeeding Week. It’s the month of breastfeeding! During this month we’ve gotten a chance to see The Global Big Latch On host events around the world where about 21,000 children were being breastfed during a timed minute. Wait, how many kids?! Yes, you read that right – 21,000! The Global Big Latch On is an organized event based around normalizing breastfeeding through having breastfeeding families gather to support one another. We at Metropolitan Breastfeeding definitely recommend breastfeeding parents to reach out and participate in next year’s event! Another thing we’ve gotten to see for World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month was Lansinoh’s ‘Beautiful Breastfeeding Around the World’ photography collection which highlighted breastfeeding in different cultures around the world. Everyone at Metropolitan Breastfeeding has a special weakness for beautiful and creative breastfeeding photos so we’d recommend you guys check it out. Did you have any breastfeeding adventures this summer? If you did and would like to share your story and maybe some pictures, tag us in them on Facebook! |
